Focused on Open Source

I’ve just coined a new phrase, maybe. Ever heard of painfully obvious? Now how about painfully easy?

I've been running a kitchen cabinet related site for some time now.  I used to host it myself (like I am with this site right now) and had copies in a couple of different places in case of emergency.  But then I changed hosts.  The site got enough traffic that power outages where I hosted it would cause trouble.  There are all sorts of power outages in Maine every winter.

Anyway, I moved it to http://nosupportlinuxhosting.com/ and have been very happy since the move.  However, I only found out today that they don't create backups.  It's in their agreement, I just never saw it.

The server my site lived on got hacked this weekend, and the host wiped the server to fix it.  Poof.  I've got no more kitchen site.  Two years and change are gone.  And the worst part is that I can't yell at anyone.  I can't even really yell at me…  someone would medicate me after too long.

So I'm kind of shocked.  It's rather like when a fairly healthy relative dies all of a sudden.  Just… gone.  No goodbye, no nothing.  Gone.

The flip side is that I won't be distracted from this site.  My original intention was to take a break for a while from the kitchen site while I get this one up and cooking.  Looks like the break is permanent, unless I want to go try recreating it, and I don't think I'm interested at this point.
